Tips When Selecting Your Window Boxes and Wall Planters
- Carefully Select Both Your Planter & Plants. In order to get the best displays you need to give thought not only to your planter - but importantly to the plants you hope to grow. Look to the spot you plan to place or hang your window box or wall planter and then carefully observe how much sun and or shade your chosen position gets during the course of a normal day. If it is going to be in full sun then you will need to choose plants the love a sunny spot like petunia, succulents or other drought tolerant plants - if your position is shady then you will need to choose plants that thrive in the share - like impatiens, pansies or even consider colorful foliage plants.
- Ensure You Can Mount Your Planter Securely - window boxes and wall planters can get very very heavy - as the plants grow and then once they are weighted down with water they can really put a lot of stress on the brackets, siding, railing, posts or other place you have chosen to hang them. Ensure you have your planter mounted securely - we recommend engaging a someone handy with the hammer - even consider a professional if need be.
- Add A Water / Mold / Mildrew Resistant Backing - naturally your wall basket or window box will get wet as you water and this mositure can easily lead to mold and mildew - green spot that can be difficult to get clean should you decide to remove your planter. This is easily cured "a stich in time saves nice" so they say - so to save yourself the clean up - just add some tough plastic sheeting behind your planter or even a peice of water resitant / mold resistant siding behind your window box or planter prior to hanging it.
One of the of the great things about gardning is the ability to reflect your chosen plantings elsewhere in your yard, porch or blacony
