Reflective Planting for EffectReflective Planting for effect. If space allows hanging two or more hanging baskets or planters can more than double the effect and impact. When planning on how best to use your space and where you will place your two or more hanging baskets or planters - take into account: * How often you will get to enjoy viewing them yourselves in the position you are considering? and then more importantly How close to the baskets or planters will be a tap or ideally a hose for easy and quick watering? And by quick watering I am thinking of less than 5 minutes a basket or planter. Sometimes it is easy to get carried away with aesthetics over practicality. The rig-ma-roll involved in getting out and the putting away the hose or watering can every day or so, is something that may easily be put off till "tomorrow". And for many of us busy types our to-do lists and daily schedules mean tomorrow may never come for your planters - despite our best intentions ! A sickly looking basket in a prime position will only disappoint you every time you see it.
There are also many cleaver hose holders on the market now. Nicely shaped terracota or terracota look a like pots that will hide your hose away. So don't be daunted by thinking well I would love to have several hanging baskets and/ or combinations of reflective planters around your home or garden - you absolutely can - the secret however is in the ease of watering them. Having next to your hose or tap, means you can quickly water them while having a cup of coffee in the morning or that cold cocktail once you get home at night. If you can manage a daily watering regime then all hope is not lost - simply choose more hardy plants, ones that require less watering. Geraniums both the upright and the trailing or ivy varieties work well and will delight. The photos below are of a trailing begonias in a hanging planter. The first photo is several days after planting, the next is the begonia in full bloom. The planter show is made from Twig and is a popular new syle of planter inspired from the hanging planters we saw in England. Imagine several of these around your home - and guess what, they only need watering every other day - and will even forgive you if you miss 2 days in a row.
Looks lovely immediately after planting Click here for the recipe on how to make this planter
And here's one in full bloom - Wow ! |

However with a little planning - positioning your baskets close to a tap or hose even if it is not in the "best" spot will mean you can water them easily and quickly every day or so - resulting in lovely looking healthy baskets full of flowers just like these once outside this boutique hotel..jpg)
