Tuberous Begonias in Hanging Baskets are a sensation - sadly they are often over looked as plants for hanging baskets or planters.
We here at Garden Squirrel simply love them.

Planting Your Hanging Basket - Choose Quality Tubers
We recommend ordering your tuberous begoinas from your garden centre well in advance. If your garden centre does not stock them - then consider ordering online - phone the company and inquire as to the size of the bulbs they stock - the larger the bulb the more expensive is the rule of thumb.
There are a great range of begonias available and the color options are just fantastic.
From white, to yellow to the apricott shades above, to red, orange, pink and even bi-colors.
Do not over crowd your basket once you have your begonias - you will be amazed how much they will grow.
We recommend no more than 2-3 medium sized tubers per 14" basket. A single large tuber - one several seasons old will completely fill your basket.
Tubers can easily be divided once they get too large - and the bonus is several new tubers.
Carefully Position Your Hanging Basket
Once you have planted your hanging basket or planter position it in a sheltered spot - tuberous begonias will take partial share to a few hours or morning sun. They will not do well in a hot area.
As they flowers are large and the braches of the begonia soft - they will easily snap off if their is too much wind or if they are accidentally bumped.
So for the best looking baskets - consider the position you intend to hang them carefully.
For Endless Flowers Fertilise and Feed Fortnightly
Tuberous Begonias thrive on being feed. Add a slow release fertilizer to your potting soil when planting your hanging basket. The feed then fortnighly with a balanced liquid fertilizer.
Make sure the fertilizer(s) you choose are for flowering plants.

Just look at the flowers on this hanging basket - remove or dead head any spent flowers to encourage more flowers.
Do not be concerned if a few of the flowers are smaller with a lot less petals than others - this is just natures way.
Watering Your Basket
Tuberous Begonias like well drained soil - they do not like to be water logged, or to be cold and wet for too long. As the steam are soft tissue they can easily rot - so let them just dry out before watering again.
Watering in the morning we think gives the best results - during summer they will need watering daily
