Lobelia in hanging baskets or hanging planters looks fantastic - plant it by itself or mix it with your favorite annuals.
There is a great range of colors - from blues, to pinks, to almost redish pink to white.
Some of the newer sun loving varities are great preformers also.

New Sun Loving Lobelia for Hanging Baskets
The blue Lobelia seen above is one of the new sun loving Lobelias from Proven Winners. We find that these preform well in hanging baskets and planters that get morning sun - but are in shade during the heat of the day - this way watering once daily will usually keep your baskets in good shape.
Watering
Hanging baskets and planters tend to dry out quickly - and Lobelia is not forgiving and can wither pretty quickly - hence our recommendation of positioning your baskets in morning sun and afternoon shade.
Lobelia will often bounce back - so if your baskets dry out and look ill - given them a good watering and then trim back your lobelia between a third to a half.
If it is a hot windy day then you may need to water twice daily
Mixed Plantings
While the lobelia is recovering consider adding some other annuals into your baskets - impatiens for more shady spot or petunias for a more sunny spot can both work very well.
In spring (once the risk of frost has passed) consider adding Lobelia into hanging baskets of pansies.
