Worlds Largest Hanging Basket

The 20ft by 10ft hanging basket, contains over 100 different varieties of plants and flowers, has been called 'The Hanging Gardens of Paddington'.

The Hanging Basket weighs more than a quarter of a tonne, took over three weeks to create by a team of designers, engineers and gardeners and eight hours to winch into position. The floral display includes thousands of pounds worth of species including orchids, roses, ivy, daisies, gerberas, ferns, conifers and moss.

The hanging basket hangs 25 ft from the ground and was created to mark the opening of a new boutique hotel in Paddington. Hotel Indigo will change its decor in line with the seasons "to keep it feeling brand new and interesting for guests".

The £125-a-night hotel is the chain's first outside North America.  Karin Nielsen, a spokesman for the hotel, said: "Our new hotel is all about unique design, bold colours and seasonal changes, so what better way to mark its arrival in the UK than by creating the world's largest hanging basket?

"We've taken our inspiration from the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the seven wonders of the world, and hope that our hanging basket will become a wonder of London."
